3rd Annual YMCA Leadership Gala A Huge Success

Albert School FiddlersThe 3rd Annual YMCA Leadership Gala hosted on May 9th at the Regina Performing Arts Centre was a huge success. With over 100 people in attendance, guests feasted on a variety of incredible appetizers prepared by the youth in our Community Cafe Employment Project, and enjoyed the entertainment of the talented Local Onlyz performance, along with the Albert School Fiddlers and Dancing Young Buffalo Drum group.

Thanks to the generous support of our event title sponsor, SaskEnergy, and the support of event sponsor Greystone Managed Investments Inc, along with a number of other organizations that provided donations to the event, the YMCA was able to raise over $16,000.

Ta-Wa-Si Recreation Program 2011 Start-Up

Ta-Wa-Si Recreation is a program developed in 2008, that combines recreational programming, leadership development, with a wilderness component. Drop-In sites located at various community schools are open throughout the week during July-August. At these sites, youth participate in sport recreation, craft activities and leadership development exercises with the added incentive of going on an expense-paid camping trip somewhere in Saskatchewan.

Ta-Wa-Si Rec 2011 will be running at three sites in the city: Albert School, Kitchener School, and Thomson School. The program will run from July 4 to August 12 and will take place between 1pm and 5pm from Monday to Friday. This year, camping trips will run from August 3-5, and the second from August 15-19.

YMCA Leadership Gala - After The Event

The 2nd Annual YMCA Leadership Gala sponsored by SaskEnergy was a great success. We saw well over 100 people in attendance at this event, and we were able to pass our fundraising goal of $5,000! Guests were entertained by Dancing Young Buffalo drumming group, 5 fiddlers from Albert School and our Virtual YMCA program, and a performance by the Scott Collegiate IMP Labs Hip-Hop Project. Delicious appetizers were on hand, courtesy of our youth and staff from our YMCA Community Cafe Employment Project.

A special thanks to; our event sponsor SaskEnergy for their gracious donation to help support community programming and ongoing recognition of youth leadership and development, all the artists who donated items for our Silent Auction, all the youth and staff from the YMCA for the planning and delivery of the evening, and to all the guests in attendance who helped make this a truely wonderful and successful event.
