Financial Target: $3 million
The downtown centre is a facility that sees thousands of visitors each week participating in fitness, education, and entertainment opportunities. The centre also provides low cost housing and is used by social service and other organizations. Our NW centre also needs to keep ahead of equipment and facility upkeep.
Upgrade both the Downtown and NW Centres by replacing aging infrastructure, plus making sure that the facilities are inviting places for the public to use. Many of the projects will also improve our energy efficiency, thus reducing long-term costs and our footprint on the environment.
Some of these improvements include a brand-new heating and cooling system as well a new boiler and heat exchange system for hte downtown location. The downtown YMCA will be replacing it's ancient boilers with a much a much more energy efficient IBC boiler system (see below). In addition to this, there are three new HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems on the roof to help improve air circulation throughout the building. The childcare rooms will also be equipped with in-floor heating and an improved air-conditioning system in order to provide a more welcome environment for our youth.
There have been some changes in at the NorthWest YMCA as well. The family, mens and womens change rooms received all new shower heads and a retiling.
Look below for videos of big changes happening at the YMCA Downtown location.
